The Challenge: Conference Calls in Inmate Communication

The conference calling feature on mobile phones has long posed a significant security threat in correctional facilities. It allows an inmate's authorized contact to discreetly add another participant to the call, bypassing prison monitoring systems and enabling illegal communication.

This vulnerability has made it difficult to effectively prevent unauthorized communication while still allowing legitimate connections between inmates and their families or lawyers.

Our Solution: Real-Time Blocking and Speaker-to-Speaker Detection

At RingShield, we’ve developed an advanced solution that goes beyond traditional call monitoring. We’ve engineered a system that successfully blocks conference calls at the network level—without requiring any apps. This ensures both public safety and secure communication between inmates and authorized parties.

Additionally, we’ve incorporated speaker-to-speaker detection, which tracks when inmates use family and friends as intermediaries. If an inmate gets someone to go on speakerphone and add another call, our system can detect and block these unauthorized connections in real-time, ensuring that no calls slip through the cracks.
